The new UES drum bag is the definitive duffle weekender bag. It feels satisfyingly sturdy, thanks to a mix of rain-resistant canvas and solid brass Japanese hardware.
A brass ring and Naskan were used for the rugged fasteners, rivets, and metal fittings. The paraffin-processed No. 8 canvas has a chewy fabric and is water repellent in a little rain.
The shoulder strap comes off, which is useful if you prefer to carry your bags by their handles. The Drum Bag fits a very specific aesthetic—it’s maybe not the bag you’d take on a business trip but rather to a cabin in the mountains. However, that outdoorsy look with a military-like finish has practical benefits: A duffle like this should last a lifetime.

UES is a small Japanese label founded by Chuji Matsumoto in 1994. UES comes from the English word “Waste”, which means that Matsumoto-San wants you to make full use of each garment for as long as possible before discarding it. It is a small judgement of the concept of disposable wear that is so commonplace today in the world of fashion and from which Matsumoto-San disassociates himself completely.
